William Henry Cosby, Jr. also popularly known as Bill Cosby opened his eyes into this world on the 12th of July in the year 1937. He is an American by origin and a comedian and an actor by profession. Not only that but he is also a successful author, television producer and an activist. He is a veteran stand-up performer, who began his careers with the starts he got at various clubs, prior to landing a vanguard role in the sixties.
He was featured in a sixties action show that was named “I Spy”. After that he went on to star in his own series, that was the much popular “The Bill Cosby Show” and that was aired during the late sixties. In addition to that he has also played the roles of several major characters on the childrens television show that was titled “The Electric Company”. He did so for the initial two seasons. He is also the creator of the humorous educational cartoon series that is titled “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids” which revolves around a group of young friends who grow up in the city.
And last but not the least he has also acted in numerous films. During the eighties time period Cosby has already produced and starred in what was considered as being the decades defining sitcoms, titled “The Cosby Show”, which had lasted for almost eight seasons and had aired during the time frame of 1984 to 1992. it is still in syndication. This sitcom had mainly highlighted not only the experiences but also the growth of an upper middle-class African-American family and the issues that they have to face.
Then after that in the nineties Cosby starred in “Cosby” which was premiered for the very first time in the mid of nineties… the year 1996 to be precise. He also hosted the popular Kids Say the Darndest Things that had initially begun in the year 1998, two years after Cosby. Further in addition to appearing in several movies during this time frame he also appeared frequently on the stand-up circuit. He had a very friendly and good-natured personality.
In fact it would not be wrong to say that he had a very fatherly image that made him not only a popular personality but also garnered him the nickname of the "Americas Dad". Further he has also become a much sought-after spokesman and over the passage of time he has also appeared in several commercials, some of the more popular ones being the commercials regarding Jell-O Pudding, Kodak Film, Ford, Texas Instruments and Coca-Cola (also the New Coke).
As far as his early family life is concerned he had been raised in both North & Northwest Philadelphia neighborhoods. His mother Anna Pearl was a maid, whereas his father William Henry Cosby, Sr. was a cook for the U.S. navy. He has four siblings, four brothers.
