Depeche Mode is a very popular English music band that belongs to the electronic music genre. It had been formed back in the year 1980 in Basildon situated in Essex. The group's original line-up had comprised of talented musicians such as Dave Gahan (who had been the lead vocalist for the band), Martin Gore (who had played the role of the keyboardist, the guitarist, the vocalist and last but nit the least the chief lyricist after the year 1981), Andrew Fletcher (who played the keyboards) and last but not the least Vince Clarke (who also filled the shoes of the keyboardist and the chief songwriter during the years 1980 to 1981). Vince Clarke had departed from the band after they had released their debut album in the year 1981. His replacement had been Alan Wilder (who had then filled the shoes for the role of the lead keyboardist for the band) who remained a member of the respective band member during the years of 1982 to the year 1995. Post the departure of Wilder in the year 1995 Gahan, Gore and Fletcher are the remaining band members who have continued in the form of a trio.

Depeche Mode is without doubt amongst the longest-living and the most successful and influential music bands of all times. They emerged during the New Romantic and the new wave era. To date they have had more than forty of their songs that have featured in the UK Singles Chart. Apart from this they have also had one U.S. and two UK number one albums. In accordance to the EMI, to date Depeche Mode has had almost eighty million album sales all across the world. According to some their total worldwide sales are more than 100 million.

Depeche Mode's origins can be dated back to the year 1977, when it�s now members named Vince Clarke and Andrew Fletcher had come together for the formation of a music band named �No Romance in China.� This band had comprised of Clarke on the vocals and the guitar and Fletcher on the bass. Two years later that is in 1979, Clarke played guitar with some school friends, amongst which Robert Marlow had delivered the vocals and Paul Langwith had been the drummer.

In the same year i.e. 1979, Marlow, Gore, Clarke and another friend named Paul Redmond formed a music band and called it �The French Look.� The month of march saw the formation of a band named �composition of sound� and included band members named �Clarke, Gore and Fletcher.� Not long after the formation of the respective music band Clarke and Fletcher switched to synthesizers and working o several odd jobs in order for their musical equipment purchases. In 1980 Dave Gahan joined them and they gave a performance at a local jam session, where they sang a rendition of David Bowie's popular song "Heroes". This was when Depeche Mode was born.
