He presently stars in the FX comedy series ‘Louie’, which he also writes, directs and edits. He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Mary and Luis Szekely who was an economist. His mother is of Irish Catholic descent and his father, a native of Mexico, is of Mexican Catholic and belongs to Hungarian Jewish ancestry. He was brought up Catholic till the age of 10, at which point he chose to leave organized religion.
After spending 7 years in Mexico City, Szekely's family went to Massachusetts, first Framingham and then Newton. His family pronounces their surname, Hungarian-origin Szekely, roughly as se-kei, and in his grade-school years he resorted to "C.K." as an easy way to get his name pronounced almost correctly as si-kay. At one time he was roommates with a fellow comedian named David Cross. He was married to New York artist and painter named Alix Bailey in the year 1995; they got divorced in year 2009. He has 2 daughters from the marriage and shares joint custody of them with Bailey.
