Styx is a popular American music band that produces and makes music that belongs to the rock genre. Amongst their most hit songs, that have struck it with both the critics and the audience are the popular “Come Sail Away", "Babe" and "Lady". "Mr. Roboto" and "Renegade” also make it to this list successfully. Styx is the very first music band ever in the history of music that has had four consecutive albums certified as multi-platinum by the RIAA.
The members that are included in the band at present have been briefly mentioned here. James "J.Y." Young( he is the vocalist, the guitarist and also the keyboardist for the band and has been playing with them since the year 1972 to present time), Tommy Shaw (he is the vocalist, the guitarist, mandolin player, autoharp player, and last but not the least the talkbox player( he has been playing with the band since the year 1975 to present with the exception of the time when he took a twelve year break between 1983 and 1995), Todd Sucherman (he plays the drums, the percussion and also gives the vocals and has been present with the band since the year 1995), then there is Lawrence Gowan ( he is also the vocalist, the keyboardist and also the guitarist for the band and has been playing with them since the year 1999 to the present times), there is also Ricky Phillips (who plays the bass guitar and also gives the vocals and has been playing with the band since the year 2003 to the present time) and last but not the least there is Chuck Panozzo (who is the bass guitarist and the vocalist for the band and has been with them since 1972 and remains to be a member of this band). The later member is at present only a part-time member as he gives "guest musician" appearances every now and then.
The Former members that had once been a part of this band but are no longer included I it include Dennis DeYoung (vocalist, keyboardist and accordion from the year 1972–1999), John Panozzo (drummer and percussionist from the year 1972–1996), John Curulewski (guitarist, vocalist, autoharp player and synthesizer player from the year 1972–1975) and last but not the least Glen Burtnik (guitarist, keyboardist and the vocalist from the year 1990–1992.The band had been formed when two twin brothers named Chuck and John Panozzo had gotten together with their neighbor named Dennis DeYoung in the year 1961. They had named their band "The Tradewinds".
During the early seventies… in the year 1971 to be precise, the band members had taken the decision of changing their band name after they had been signed to Wooden Nickel Records. Amongst the different suggestions that had been made they had eventually chosen the name “Styx” for their band.
