The Saw Doctors are an Irish folk rock band. Founded in the year 1986 in Tuam, County Galway, they have obtained 18 Top 30 singles in Ireland, showing 3 number ones. Their 1st number one called "I Useta Lover," topped the Irish charts for 9 constant weeks in the year 1990, and still holds the record for the country's all time biggest-selling single. Well-known for their live appearances, the band has a cult following, especially in Ireland, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US).
On 15th Feb., the year 2008, they were given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards. The Saw Doctors were founded in the year 1986 by Leo Moran (previously a member of defunct Tuam reggae band, Too Much for the White Man), Davy Carton (previously a songwriter and guitarist with short-lived Tuam punk band Blaze X), and local vocalist Mary O'Connor. The trio got their start playing small gigs in limited locations such as Tuam's Imperial Hotel. O'Connor left the group the following year to emigrate to London. Carton and Moran poured other musicians and carried on with the band. Moran and Carton have been the only permanent presences in the Saw Doctors' ever-shifting arrangement.
