The Cincinnati Reds are a Cincinnati, Ohio based Major League Baseball team. Right now Cincinnati Reds are members of the Central Division of the National League.
The Cincinnati Reds franchise was originated in the year 1882 as a charter member of a defunct 19th century Major League, the American Association. The name "Reds" started from their original name, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, baseball's very first professional baseball team. The Reds afterwards joined the National League in the year 1890.
The team has enjoyed sporadic success over their 125-plus years while their playing years. The Cincinnati Red won the AA's inaugural season in the year 1882, and did not win another championship until the Black Sox scandal ridden World Series of the year 1919. After struggling in the late 1920s which specifically started in the year 1927 and 1930s, the Reds made it back to the World Series in the year 1939, and got a success in 1940. Cincinnati Reds returned to the bottom half of the standings from the year 194 to 1960, except for a third-place finish in the year 1956, afterwards winning the National League pennant in the year 1961. Cincinnati Reds after losing to the Yankees in the year1961 World Series, unfortunately the Reds were unable to piece together any consistent pennant contending teams until the "Big Red Machine" teams of the 1970s.
