Located in Texas, the Texas Rangers are a professional baseball team, who represent the Dallas-Ft.Worth metropolitan area. The Texas Rangers are a member of the Major League Baseball's American League, Western Division. Since the year 1994 to the present, the Texas Rangers have played in Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas. The "Rangers" name originated from the famous law enforcement agency by the similar name.
An expansion franchise, the club was established in Washington, D.C., in the year 1961 and was known as the Washington Senators. The Team then went to Arlington in the year 1972 and became the Rangers.
The Rangers are one of three Major League franchises who have never played in a World Series, along with the Seattle Mariners (who were established in the year1977) and the Washington Nationals (established in the year 1969 as the Montreal Expos). The Senators/Rangers franchise is the oldest team in any of the major North American professional leagues who has never won a league championship, even though the Chicago Cubs, the Cleveland Indians and the San Francisco Giants who won their most current respective World Series previous to the Senators/Rangers franchise joining the league. The Texas Rangers played the 1961 season at old Griffith Stadium earlier than moving to District of Columbia Stadium on East Capitol Street and the Anacostia River.
