Rent is an American musical that has bagged not only the Tony Award but also the Pulitzer Prize owing to its awesome storyline. Its music and lyrics have been given by Jonathan Larson. Following the previews that featured in January 1996, it followed with an opening in the New York City in February of the same year. Later it was relocated to the Broadway and opened at the Netherlander Theatre in April of 1996. it is an adaptation of the Giacomo Puccini's opera La bohme and it revolves around the group of several talented young artists and musicians who struggled for survival and creation in New York's Alphabet City.
During 2005 a complete adaptation of this rock opera was made into a complete movie that featured several of the original cast members. Other than that the plot was only slightly altered like for instance the songs were changed into dialogues that were spoken instead of sung.
