Seussical is a sung-through musical situated on the books of Dr. Seuss that initiated on Broadway in the year 2000. The play's story is a pretty complex join up of many of Seuss's well known books. After a Broadway run the production produced 2 United States national tours and a United Kingdom tour. It has become a favorite for school, community and also regional theatres. Seussical started on the Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Nov., 30th, the year 2000. Directed by Frank Galati with Kathleen Marshall as the choreographer, the original Broadway starring featured David Shiner as the Cat in the Hat, Kevin Chamberlin as Horton, and Anthony Blair Hall as Jojo.
It also included the Janine LaManna as the Gertrude McFuzz and Michelle Pawk as Mayzie LaBird, with Stuart Zagnit to be the Mayor of Whoville, Alice Playten as the Mayor's wife, Sharon Wilkins as the Sour Kangaroo and Erik Devine acting as the General Genghis Khan Schmitz also appearing. All through the run, there were several celebrities Cat in the Hat replacements, featuring Rosie O'Donnell and Cathy Rigby. The production received warm reviews, with critics focusing on huge starring of characters and uncaring plotlines. The Broadway production was complete on May 20th, the year 2001, after 198 performances and 34 previews.
