The pre-eminent men’s professional basketball league of North America is called NBA (National Basketball Association). National Basketball Assiciation League was founded in 1946 in New york. Its Head offices are located in the Olympic Tower of New York City. It consists of thirty franchised member clubs. One of its member club is located in Canada and the other thirty nine in United States. It is one of the four major North American Professional League. In 1946 its name was Basketball Association of America (BAA). In 1949 Basketball Association of America agreed to merge with NBL and created a new league. Its name was changed to National Basketball league. At that time it had seventeen franchises. The 1960’s were dominated by the Boston Celtics.
They won every championship in the NBA. They won nine of the ten championship banners of 1960’s. in 1970’s NBA expanded rapidly. In that era NBA grew from nine franchises to 18. In early 1980’s NBA expanded more by adding, Dallas Mavericks. The number of teams became 23. In 1984 Michael Jordon entered in the League. in 1995 NBA expanded with the addition of Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies. In 1996 NBA created a women’s league, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). In 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium the 2010 NBA All-Star game was held. The Los Angeles Lakers finished with the best record in the west.The Celtics and the Lakers renewed their rivalry when they met again in the NBA finals for the 12th time.
