NHL Information
National Hockey League was originated in 1917 with six teams. It is a Not-for-Profit association. It operates a professional ice hockey league of 30 franchised member clubs, of which 6 are located in Canada and 24 are located in United States. It is one of the four major North American Professional League. it has the smallest total fan base of the four leagues. National Hockey League games are played on a rectangular hockey rink with rounded corners surrounded by walls and plexiglass. National Hockey League follows the rules of general ice hockey. These rules are sligthly different from those used in International games organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
During 2004-2005, the League changed some rules. In Canada, National Hockey Leagues are aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and The Sports Network. In United States, NHL games are aired nationally by Versus and by NBC. This League is very prominent in Canada. Hockey Figths Cancer is a joint initiative founded in 1998 to raise money and awareness for Hockey’s most important figth. During the days laeding upto Rememberance Day that is 11th of November, the coaches and the other NHL members wear Red poppy lapel pins in respect of the day. The 2010 Stanley Cup play-offs saw the largest audience in the history of sports. This resulted in 66% rise in the NHL advertising and sponsorship revenue. NHL currently has players from about 20 countries. All players are highly skilled.
