Rod Stewart whose full name is Roderick "Rod" David Stewart opened his eyes into this world on the 10th of January in the year 1945. He is both a singer and a songwriter by profession who had been born and also raised in London, England. He is at present a resident of Epping. He belongs to Scottish and English descent.
He gained instant popularity and success owing to his distinctive raspy voice. He was very prominent during the sixties and the seventies time period. The reason behind his popularity had been his association with first The Jeff Beck Group and then later on the Faces. He had launched his solo career in the year 1969 when he had released his debut album that had been titled “An Old Raincoat Wont Ever Let You Down”. The work tat he had done with The Jeff Beck Group and also The Faces had proved to be very influential regarding not only the formation of the heavy metal music genre but also the punk rock genre. Both of the aforementioned music bands had been pioneers of blues-rock.
When professionally his career had been in its fifth decade, Stewart had achieved several solo hit singles all across the world at that point of time. Some of his biggest hits had been notably in the UK, where he had garnered half a dozen back to back number one albums. Further his tally of this 62 all career hit singles include 24 singles that had made it to the top 10. Even out of these half a dozen of these ten singles had managed to make it to the number one spot. Amongst his biggest hits some singles are "Maggie May", "You Wear It Well", "Sailing" and "Tonights the Night (Gonna Be Alright)." "Hot Legs", "Da Ya Think Im Sexy?" and "Forever Young" are some other biggies. And last but not the least of course who can forget "Rhythm of My Heart." It had initially been estimated that to date all of Stewarts albums and singles sales combined they have sold over 250 million. This is a huge feat and speaks volumes for him in itself. Not only this, but he has also earned himself a place on the list of the best-selling music artists of all times.
Stewart had been born in a family of five children in Archway, North London, England where he had been the youngest. His parents named Robert and Elsie Stewart had both been newsagents. Rod had been the first of his siblings whose birth had taken place in England after his family had relocated from Scotland. He had then gone on to attend the William Grimshaw School that is situated in Hornsey. The Stewart family had also been huge fans of the singer named Al Jolson and in the Stewart clan had gone on to sing and also play his hits. Rod used to collect his records and also read the books tat had been written about him.
