Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football franchise. Baltimore Ravens are a member of the National Football League (NFL)’s American Football Conference, North Division. Their name is a reference to the poem "The Raven" written by Edgar Allan Poe, who during his life lived and worked in the Baltimore at various points and is buried in the city. Its victory over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV at the finale of the 2000 season has been the only time thus far it has won the Super Bowl.
The Baltimore Ravens came into establishment in the year 1996 when Art Modell owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced his plan to relocate his team from Cleveland to the Baltimore. The controversy ended when council of Cleveland and the NFL reached a settlement on 8th Feb, 1996. The agreement specified that the Browns' name, colors, uniform design and franchise records would remain in the Cleveland.
The franchise history included Browns club records and association with Pro Football Hall of Fame players. A new team to start play in year 1999 would be regarded as the "reactivated" Cleveland Browns. Modell's Baltimore team, while acquiring all current player contracts, would officially be the expansion team, a "new franchise." However, not all players, staff or front office would make the shift to Baltimore.
