Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Atlanta Falcons are a professional American football team. They are presently a member of the National Football Conference (NFC)’s NFC South division in the National Football League (NFL). The Falcons associated with the NFL in the year 1965 as an expansion team, after that the NFL offered their owner Rankin Smith a franchise to keep him from joining the opponent American Football League. The AFL as a substitute granted the franchise to Miami. In their 43 years of existence, the Atlanta Falcons have compiled a record of 275–400–6 with division championships in the years 1980, 1998 and 2004. They have one Super Bowl appearance, the Super Bowl XXXIII in the year1999. When the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was built, Atlanta Falcons felt the time was ready to start pursuing Professional Football.
With everyone running in unlike directions, some home businessmen worked out a deal and were awarded an AFL franchise on 7th June 1965, dependent upon acquiring exclusive stadium rights from city officials. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle, who was moving slowly in the Atlanta matters, was spurred by the American Football League interest and headed on the next plane down to Atlanta to stop the rival league's claim on the city of Atlanta. He forced the city for the choice between the two leagues. On June 30th Rankin Smith and the NFL were the choice.

Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was held out of practice Wednesday with an ankle injury. The Atlanta Falcons are winning, their offense seems good enough to match the NFL's best, and third-year quarterback Matt Ryan is taking charge. I am a huge Atlanta Falcons fan and there is no way their ranking would not be influenced by this fact.
