The Minskoff Theatre is a rightful Broadway theatre, situated at the 1515 Broadway in midtown-Manhattan. It is now plying the musical The Lion King, based on the Disney animated film of the similar name. The 1,621 seat location, designed by the architects Kahn and Jacobs, is on the 3rd floor of One Astor Plaza, an office tower built on the location of the legendary Astor Hotel. Named after Sam Minskoff and Sons, builders and owners of the high-rise building, it started on March 13th, the year 1973, with a renewal of Irene casting Debbie Reynolds.
Over the years it has worked as host to musicals, dance companies, and also the concerts. In the year 1981, it hosted Miss Universe 1981 which was won by Irene Saez of Venezuela. In the September year 2007, a new set within the Minskoff space was made for the syndicated news magazine The Insider, which had previously been based on the 2nd floor of Astor Plaza in MTV's studios and in Los Angeles. The program went back to Los Angeles completely for the year 2008–09 season. The favorite productions of 21st century include Dance of the Vampires, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Lion King
Opened in 1973, the theatre was named for Sam Minskoff and Sons, one of New York's distinguished real estate families.
